Cosmo’s Naughty Notes is a book full of little adhesive coupons that are meant to be given a guy by a female. The book includes over 100 little coupons to give to your partner. The little coupon book is published by the editors of Cosmo. Most of the coupons just make sexual advances, but some of the coupons are fill-in-the-blanks. The coupons are pretty big at five inches long and four inches tall. The coupons are just made from a heavy paper. Along with the pre-written notes, the book also contains blank notes in the back.
Now, I can’t honestly say that there’s a lot of stuff to really critique in a little book such as this. Whenever you open the book to a specific page, all of the pages before it just fall out because the adhesive just lets go. This is probably because this is how they designed the notes to be easy to remove from the book itself, but instead of being helpful, it means that, anytime you actually open the book, quite a few of the pages fall out. So don’t expect this little book to stay looking like a book. Instead, it’s going to end up being a book cover while the rest of the actual coupons have fallen out of the book.
One of the selling points of this book is that you’re supposed to be able to peel off a coupon and stick it to things – much like a kinky post-it note. However, while the adhensive makes the “book” completely un-book-like, it also doesn’t stick to items either. I’ve tried sticking it to anything, but even when the coupon has recently been unpeeled, it just doesn’t stick to anything. The adhensive isn’t strong enough, and the edges of the coupon itself actually curl, so it doesn’t stick flat either. You need to use tape if you want to stick this up to something. If, when you open the book, your coupons fall out, they already are going to lose their adhesive before you even want to adhere them to something.
The coupons themselves are okay. I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting. Some of them are lame in the way that only Cosmo can manage, but some of them are actually kinda cute. For example “Congrats on the promotion! Now it’s time for me to give you a raise!” Or “I’m tackling the classics. Tonight is the “Kama Sutra”. Some of them are coupons that ask your partner to “Take their pick” of what options are available while others are coupons that you give to your partner as an “IOU” such as for a lapdance. Another says “Clearly you have an oral fixation. Don’t even think of trying to fix that” All of the coupons are sex-related, and none of them are much for the “romance”.
I’m not sure how I feel about the obvious audience for these coupons. The book is written towards straight females to give to their male partners. All of the coupons are worded that way, and honestly, most of the coupons wouldn’t be of much use unless you were a female giving these coupons to your male. For example, some of the notes are signed “XOXO” – probably not a good fit for femdom couples.
I wouldn’t really say that I’m impressed by this. I was expecting some naughty notes, but this just wasn’t what I was expecting. The notes themselves were heterosexual in nature, and at times, stereotypical, but they did make me smile, and I would have had no problem with them. However, the notes themselves were touted as self-adhesive yet they would adhere to any surface, and they actually would just fall out of the book as well. This makes it a not-as-good choice as others.
