LA Bondage is a 176 page book filled with erotic photography done by Dave Naz and published by Goliath. Apparently, all the girls were photographed in Los Angeles – I just thought that was a marketing gimmick. The book is nicely, and durably hardcover, and the inside pages are all full-color pages. The pages don’t feel slick or look shiny, so it’s some really high-quality type of photo paper which is neat to know. The book is about a foot tall and seven inches wide. In a totally random note, the title on the spine of the book is actually printed facing the wrong way compared to American books. I’m fully aware this is going to drive my perfectionist-boyfriend up the wall sitting in our book collection. And that makes this book even more awesome.
I really enjoyed the fact that the book was really high-quality. The spine won’t be giving out nor will the pages be falling out anytime soon. The hard-cover is really thick, and it will protect the pages from any sort of damage (unless it’s liquid). The pages are made from that high-quality photo paper that displays the bondage photos in their full glory. This is one of those books that will be lasting a long, long time into the future.
The book is set up pretty normally. One picture per every page. The pictures take up the full space available by the page. In most cases, the two pages facing each other contain the same woman in different positions/views/clothing in the same set. Sometimes there’s four consistent pages with the same model. It really depends.
All of the models are mid-twenties, well-in-shape women with natural breasts. There is quite a bit of nudity in these bondage pictures with almost all of the women having bare exposed breasts, and the occasional naked butt or exposed genitals. No men were included in this book (unless you count the one picture of the ‘About the photographer’ page on 170.) The girl’s pubic hair appears be their own personal preference, and it doesn’t look like they were asked to shave or anything for the shoot.
The time that these pictures were taken definitely varies as well. By looking at the quality of the photo as well as the furniture included in the backdrop, I can tell that some of these were actually taken at the end of the 90s which is kinda neat.
Unlike most bondage photography, Dave Naz is very fond of taking pictures of women in bondage outside. Most of the pictures included in this compilation include pictures of the girls outside in their bondage. Some of it is shot inside on furniture, but the vast majority is by a tree or in the dirt. In fact, there’s a couple suspensions that have been done by being tied to a tree.
The ropework in the book is pretty decent. It’s obvious that different riggers did the different women. Some have a decorative style, some are obvious Shibari, and some obviously care more about practicality and like to keep it simple. It was nice to see the different types of rope bondage all included in the same book. The riggers are all credited at the back of the book with the specific pages there ropework was featured in. There a couple main riggers listed with some other riggers having been included as well.
It can be difficult to talk about a picture book like this – especially without you being able to see it yourself. Some of the photography is amazing, and the ideas that Dave Naz has can just be breathtaking. For example, a naked, bound girl outside near the garden in her black slippers. Or an orange being used as a ballgag. Or a guy lounging on a couch with his feet propped up onto a table in which a girl is tied underneath. Plus, you just can’t forget the fact that Nina Harley is the model for a couple pictures.
I really liked the pictures included in the book. They were all pretty, and they were all fun to look at. From the point-of-view of someone who likes to play with rope and tie up people, it actually serves as inspiration as well. If the boyfriend and I get bored, we can just open the book, pick a page, and try to replicate it. Plus, all of the girls in the book just look really happy and content in the bondage they’ve been placed in – no one is screaming nor crying. I really will enjoy adding this to our rope photograph collection – especially since there are so few books that are actually published that include bondage photography in such a natural and pleasant fashion.
