Kama Sutra Lover’s Paintbox Body Paint Review

Outside packaging

UPDATE JULY 2021: This boxed set is no longer in production. This review remains as a reference for anyone who wants information about this set. While you’re here, why not check out my BDSM advice and femdom advice?

I’m one of those women who absolutely love chocolate. Chocolate is absolutely lovely, so chocolate sex? That has to be even better. I’ve been lusting after the KamaSutra chocolate series for a very long time, so when BetterSex offered to let me review it, I was escatic.

The Lover’s Paintbox Body Paint is a kit of KamaSutra brand body chocolate. The kit comes with three chocolate flavors: Dark chocolate, white chocolate, and milk chocolate. The kit also has a nice brush that comes with it to put the chocolate on someone. Each jar includes two ounces of the chocolate. The jars are made from glass to keep them extra fresh, and the lids are screw-off lids that are extremely easy to get off of the chocolate jar. The brush comes covered in plastic to keep it fresh as well. Overall, the entire kit just looks gorgeous and reminds me very much of a luxury product.

The packaging is pretty gorgeous. It comes in a black tray covered in plastic. On the outside of this black tray, there’s a cardboard overlay that the tray slides into. It’s easy to get the tray out, but unless you are trying, the tray won’t slide out on its own. The outside cardboard cover doesn’t state anything overly sexual on it – just “Lover’s paintbox”. It’s very classy packaging, and there aren’t any naked bodies or anything on it. After you slide the tray out, you can pull off the plastic top and each container of chocolate (and the brush) will have their own holes in the tray to sit in. It’s easy to keep it organized. It’s worth noting that my outside cardboard decoration doesn’t have the japanese-esque decorations that the BetterSex picture does. It’s just a gorgeous brown color that, in my opinion, looks much better.

The brush itself is just a regular brush like you’d pick up at the local craft store except its colors match the chocolate set. The handle of the brush is just black, textured plastic, and the bristles are just colored white and seem to be a little softer than I remember most paintbrushes being. The bristles seem to stay in okay, and we haven’t had any bristles fall into our chocolate drawings yet.

The chocolate has a bit of a thicker substance. It really depends on how you decide to “serve” your chocolate. These little things can be warmed in the microwave for extra warm play. We only microwaved it for ten seconds that really seemed to make it warm enough to play with. Now, if you leave the chocolate cold, it will have a thicker texture. If you microwave it, it will have a more-liquid texture. You want the “somewhat warm” middle for the best results when playing with the chocolate. Too liquid will drip everywhere while the thicker chocolate doesn’t paint quite as well. With this middle-ground warmth, I found that most of our designs painted on really nicely. If you want more precision with your paintings, you could always choose to buy some actual paintbrushes from a nearby craft store. However, you will want to make sure you pick up a set that has firmer bristles.

The chocolate does paint in different colors too. The white chocolate is an off-white while the dark chocolate is a dark brown and the milk chocolate is a lighter brown. A bigger annoyance is that you have to clean the brush between the brown chocolates or the white chocolate or you will make your white chocolate contain traces of the brown chocolate. If that doesn’t bother you, that’s fine, but I wish the company would have thrown in three brushes. A neat little idea is probably to go pick up some stencils from that nearby craft store if you’d like. Using a stencil to draw your paintings is actually a lot of fun.

Once on, the chocolate isn’t very sticky at all. It will get pretty sticky if you leave it on, but it isn’t any sort of “icky – get it off” once it’s on. You’ll honestly get much stickier from your partner licking up the chocolate than you will from the chocolate itself. Once on, the chocolate washes off pretty easily too.

I found the chocolates to be quite yummy. I’ve seen reviews that say that the chocolate has an alcohol aftertaste, but since I’ve never drank, I can’t really comment there. I honestly found them to taste as each one should except the white chocolate. Maybe it’s all of my time around marshmallows, but I found the white chocolate to taste slightly of marshmallows which was ridiculously yummy. The chocolates are actually all quite yummy during your play – as long as it’s semi-quick. After twenty minutes of licking up chocolate, you aren’t going to find it quite as tasty. It honestly does taste like a chocolate you’d put on top of your ice cream except with some extra additives. (I imagine the additives are there to help neutralize the taste of the skin and to make the chocolate more paint-friendly.)

Using the chocolates is extremely easy. All you have to do is dip your paintbrush into the paint and doodle your designs on your partner. From there, you can lick up the designs or just paint on your partner. Afterwards, I recommend a shower since this stuff won’t just be absorbed by the skin – it will need to be washed off. However, it’s extremely easy to wash. Something to consider: Chocolate could stain any light carpet, sheets, or material if it gets on the fabric. For the sake of your furniture, be careful where you place it and where it drips to. I found that the bottles contained quite a bit of chocolate (those 2 ounches), and with the couple times we’ve tested it, we still have an amazing amount left. I’d say this will easily last over twenty uses.

Another safety concern is where to put the chocolate. The chocolate honestly is safe except anywhere near the genitals. While you could get away with putting it on the male genitals since it’s harder for males to get hurt by sugar there, I still wouldn’t recommend it since it is possible. This should find itself NO WHERE near the female genitals. It’s chocolate – it’s loaded with sugar. The sugar will mess with the chemical balance of the vagina, and most likely give your poor partner a yeast infection.

Now, this may seem a little silly, but this kit is pretty classy and adorable. If you knew someone who was getting married or celebrating an anniversary, I’d complete recommend picking up a set for them. It doesn’t scream “sex toy”, and they’ll love being able to be romantic with each other in a new way. If you and your own partner want to feel close in a new way, I completely recommend this set too. It’s fun, and it lets you bring some chocolate into your sex life in a sensual way.
