I absolutely love reading different novels especially when they are about sex. The ones I prefer most usually have a story to them and more story then sex, and this one definitely fits that definition.
“The Pleasure’s All Mine“, written by Joan Kelly, is an amazing book about her experience as a professional submissive. It has 218 pages, and the pages feel well-constructed as well as the text is easy to read. It took me about two and half hours to read. The book’s cover features a model, naked, laying on a table with a man’s hand on her back. It’s really hard to tell she’s naked since her butt is made to be blurry. The back side just features some text and nothing fancy. I loved how the cover and back were set up. They look “vanilla” enough for me to take this erotic novel out in public to read as long as I keep the front cover hidden. (That’s exactly what I did too. I read this in between classes at the college.) One thing I will mention: My first copy of the book had an orange/white color scheme on the back while the second copy I received had an orange/green. Odd, but whatever.
This book is another “erotic novel”. That means – don’t expect it to be sex scene after sex scene. It isn’t. Expect more of a regular book that is free to speak about the sexual scenes as they come by instead of just “And he entered her. The end” Mostly Joan Kelly does a great job balancing the story of the novel with the sex scenes that come with it. I was actually extremely impressed by how well she did so. It kept my attention easily, and I wanted to find out what would go on towards the end.
The book itself doesn’t have much of an escalation of a plot honestly which is to be expected out of a memoir. I’d have to assume that most, if not all, of the details in this story are actually true to Kelly’s life. However, like I said, the book itself doesn’t reach a climax. It mostly stays on the same level of interest from the beginning to the end.
While a lot of us hear a lot (if you’re in BDSM anyway) about professional Dominants, none of us really hear much about professional submissives. It’s mostly because they don’t function very well in most places because of problems with safety. Being paid to be in control is one thing; being paid to be controlled is another. Either way, it’s really the main reason I purchased this erotic book – I wanted to read about a professional submissive.
“The Pleasure’s All Mine” features a young woman (Joan Kelly) who realizes that she has an urge to be dominated by others. While attending a BDSM party, she receives a recommendation about a local dungeon that is hiring professional submissives to do scenes with their clients. She applies and gets the job while still holding down her day job. After a couple days working at the dungeon, her work there is all she can focus on; she lives for it. This leads her to do something drastic that makes her in more need of money then she was before.
From there, she actually chooses to set out and get out from underneath the dungeon’s wing. She sets out and makes her own professional submissive business. The rest of the novel is about her scenes with clients and her relationships with Dominants.
One of the main reasons I loved this book is for the scenes. Joan Kelly writes in a manner that allows you to feel exactly what she’s thinking (nervous, excited, scared) when she meets with these different clients. After all, these are complete strangers that are paying to beat her and have their way with her. I love her complete honesty with what they do to her, and I honestly enjoyed the look into what men would pay a woman to be able to do to her. Since sex isn’t allowed “professionally”, it’s other fetish-related things like caning, spanking, or other varied things. (I guess you’ll have to read the book to find out.)
Overall, it’s an amazing novel. I enjoyed the first page to the last page. It kept me interested and wanting to read more. It’s a great insight into what a professional submissive would do with clients, and if there was a part 2, I’d pick it up in a heartbeat. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good erotic novel or anyone that is curious about the professional side of BDSM.
