UPDATE MAY 2020: Ahhh, it’s so weird to see this again! The BodiTalk Escort is no longer in production – though OhMiBod still carries on making lots of neat teledildonic, voice-activated vibrators, music vibrators, and long-distance remote control vibrators. This cell phone vibrator review remains as a reference for those who want info about this older vibrator.
The BodiTalk Escort is a bullet vibrator that works as a regular vibrator as well as vibrates to a nearby phone call. The vibrator is made from plastic, and it operates on two AAA batteries. The bullet can be detached from the control pack for easy storage. The vibrator includes seven different vibrating functions, and it can be used manually, with a phone, or turned off. This vibrator does not include the batteries like other OhMiBod products, and it does not work with music.
OhMiBod has beautiful packaging and the BodiTalk Escort is no exception. This vibrator comes in a plain white box that accentuates the beautiful look of the product itself. It also has some pink accentuation in it. Inside the outer cardboard box, the OhMiBod BodiTalk Escort comes in a little plastic tray. The tray includes the vibrator’s controller, the bullet, and a small storage pouch. The storage pouch is definitely small, but it does fit the BodiTalk Escort in it just fine with no issues. It includes an instructional manual that is in color and explains everything very well.
The BodiTalk has a couple of different vibrational modes. This makes it useful even when you don’t want to use it with a phone call. It can be used as an average vibrator, it can be turned off, or it can be used alongside your phone conversations. The phone conversation vibrations just use the same vibrational settings that the manual mode uses. The BodiTalk has three steady vibrational settings: low, medium, and high, and it has 4 different patterns as well. In case you wanted a hands-free way to use it, the vibrator also includes a little unremovable belt-clip on the back of the vibrator. This vibrator is only compatible with cell phones, and unlike other OhMiBod products, it does not work with music players.
To be honest, I think I had a different idea about how this Boditalk would work. I had just assumed that, instead of just turning on for steady vibrations while in the “phone mode”, it would actually vibrate to the vocals on the phone call or something else. Instead, what this does is that it vibrates whenever a phone is on near it. It stays on a steady vibrational setting, and it just keeps repeating that vibrational setting until the phone call is ended. The BodiTalk is supposed to be able to do this as long as the phone is within three meters of the BodiTalk.
The BodiTalk operates on two AAA batteries. Unlike other OhMiBod toys, the batteries with the BodiTalk are not included. I actually had a hard time removing the back of the battery case. It got stuck on really easily, and it does take a bit of forcing in order to get the case to come off. I had to have the boyfriend open mine. It does take a bit of force, and don’t feel like you’re going to break your BodiTalk if you can’t get it to open right away. The bateries slide in easily, and the battery case goes back on pretty easily as well.
It’s easy to control the BodiTalk. There is a switch on the side of the vibrator – it’s a bit hard to change, but it prevents you from accidentally turning it on either. It switches from the manual mode, cell phone mode, and off. Along with this, when the vibrator is on the cell phone or manual mode, there are two buttons on the face of the vibrator. The larger button cycles through the vibration strengths while the smaller button automatically turns off the vibrator in case of emergencies.
The manual mode makes this vibrator work just like any other regular vibrator. You can press the large button to cycle through all of the vibrational settings. You can use this bullet just like you would use any other bullet. It’s meant to be used externally, and as far as I can tell, the bullet is attached firmly, but just for safety’s sake, if you want to insert this, I recommend making sure to stick the bullet in a condom first just to try and avoid harming the bullet upon removing the bullet.
The cell phone mode works when the vibrator switch is switched to “C” which is the middle switch. It picks up when a cell phone is chatting nearby, and it turns itself on. It does not, contrary to my belief, vibrate to anything specific. It just turns on to whatever regular manual vibration setting it wants to and continues to play that setting over and over. It takes the vibrator a bit to pick up on the cell phone. With ours, it took about 30 seconds or so before the vibrator would notice that a call had started/ended. Putting it close to the phone seemed to speed up the process, but you didn’t have to keep it close to the phone. As long as you’re using the phone while planning on using the vibrator on yourself, the vibrator seems to pick up the vibrations just fine; the instruction manual says it should have a 3 meter range.
The cell phone mode seems to go off the frequencies that the cell phone puts out. Only, unfortunately, I’m not sure *which* frequencies it goes off of. This vibrator turned into a bit of a ghost while I was sitting down to review it. It works during the cell phone mode, but when I turned on my camera to take pictures, the vibrator started vibrating too. I’m not sure if it was the camera or the close proximity to my laptop (wireless internet), but something made it vibrate. I checked – it was on the “cell phone” mode. There must be a certain frequency that this operates at, and as a fair warning, other items you own may emit the same frequency, so for the sake battery life (and your heart when it turns on!), I recommend making sure to store this in the “Off” mode. I left it alone while writing this review, and it turned itself on multiple times. The only thing nearby was my laptop and the boyfriend’s PSP/PS3, so I don’t know what does it.
When it comes to the cell phone mode, I’m not quite sure what I expected, but I was a little let down by the BodiTalk escort. I had assumed that the vibrations would vibrate with different speaking patterns or something while on the phone, but instead, it just turns itself on during a phone call. If the idea of your caller “controlling” your vibrator turns you on while on the phone, that works amazingly, but I was hoping for a bit more since it just basically works as a regular bullet vibrator that just happens to be turned on whenever a phone call is made. On that note, you can actually also control the vibration settings while on Phone mode as well; when you press the large button, it will let you cycle through the different types of vibrational modes. As long as the vibrator is in the call, it will continue to “play” that vibrational pattern, but you can control which pattern it plays.
The vibrations on the BodiTalk are okay. The low and medium vibrational steady settings are pretty quiet and couldn’t be heard outside a closed door. The highest setting is a bit loud, and depending on how you use the vibrator, it might make it a bit hard to hear whoever you are talking to on the phone. However, depending on how you grab it or use pressure, the vibrations can be toned down a bit. The patterns are interesting to use, but they aren’t anything too unique. The low and medium vibration levels are more mild, but the highest setting is very strong. It actually numbs my fingers very quickly to hold onto the bullet during use. However, if you like mild vibrations, the low and medium should work for you, but if you enjoy stronger vibrations, the highest setting should be able to get you off. However, the vibrations are a bit buzzy, so they don’t feel quite as strong as they sound or initially look like. For about half of women, these vibrations should be enough to reach orgasm, but for some, these will just be teasing vibrations.
This cell phone vibrator can be cleaned with adult toy cleaner or soap and water. It should be dried thoroughly again before use. When cleaning, keep liquids away from the battery compartment and be careful because this sex toy is not waterproof. In fact, if you can help it, I’d avoid getting any messes on the controller itself and just cleaning up the bullet. Since this is plastic, it’s compatible with all types of lubricant. When not in use, make sure to store it in the “off” position as well as keep it in the little storage bag.
Overall, while I think the BodiTalk is a very unique idea, I don’t think that it lends itself too well to phone vibrations. It just acts as a regular bullet that just happens to get turned on when a phone is nearby. If OhMiBod could find a way to make the vibrator get weaker or stronger vibrations depending on the person talking on the phone, I would be extremely impressed, and I think that’s a very sexy way for this BodiTalk Escort to go.
