Front cover

The “Cosmo’s Aqua Kama Sutra” book is a book of sex positions sold by FunWares and produced by the staff of Cosmo magazine. The book is 63 pages long and includes full-color pictures on the inside. The book is softcover and very flexible. There are 25 different water-sex positions included in the book including 6 mini-articles about aspects of having sex in the water.

To be completely honest, I rarely take anything Cosmo magazine has to say seriously. I’m sure Cosmo’s magazine subscription list is made up half of those who actually believe what they say and the other half is people like myself who subscribe just to giggle at some of the silly stuff they print. However, it’s pretty hard to get a sex position book wrong, so it seems like one of the neater areas to branch off into, so I wanted to see this book.

Sadly, the boyfriend and I don’t really have any place that would allow us to try out many of the positions listed in the book. We have a shower and a bath, but this book includes a lot of positions for large bodies of water. However, the book does include some positions intended for bathtub, shower, and sprinkler use which would be easy for the majority of people to find. It also include positions for a pool, a lake, an ocean, and a hot tub. The book makes it easy to figure out if you can do each position because it includes an easy “hint guide” at the top of each page listing which one of the areas the position works best for.

The main selling point of this book to me was the fact that it’s waterproof. I mean, how awesome is that? I did dunk it in water to see if the book would be okay, and you know what, it is! In the shower, the droplets of water tend to distort the text a bit to make it hard to read, but the book came out just fine. I wouldn’t recommend allowing the book to just sit in water and soak as that might ruin it, but for splashproof and occasional dunking, it holds up just fine. Because it is waterproof, the cover and pages are covered with a very light film that make this book feel different than regular pages.

The pictures included in this book are not realistic. They are little drawn stick figures (not horrible stick figures, but stick figures none-the-less). You easily can figure out what exactly is happeneing in the pictures, but they aren’t detailed or anything. They also don’t list any way to “get into” the position. It just assumes you see the picture and figure out how to achieve the position yourself. All of the positions are shown between a male and a female. No mention of homosexual positions are made, but if need be, you can easily adjust most of the positions to work for strap-on or anal sex.

Each one of the positions takes up two pages. The left-hand page shows a picture of the sex positions being “performed” in the illustrated water. The right-hand side will give you text about the position. The right-hand side also includes that little “water place” key I was talking about. Each position includes “Erotic Instructions” which are basically instructions that are going to tell you how to achieve the position. They are helpful, but having pictures would have been more helpful. It includes a “Why You’ll Love It” for every position that explains why the female of the relationship is going to enjoy this specific position. Along with that, at the bottom of each position page is a sentence of “Aqua Extra” which is a random thing like scratching his back or touching yourself that will help you make the position more exciting. In my opinion, the “Aqua Extra” is usually pretty useless since they are pretty boring suggestions, but a couple like “Time up your thrusts to the wave to get extra hard thrusts” were neat ideas.

The articles are actually pretty useful. They are something I’d expect to see a sex site to say, so I’m impressed. Great job Cosmo. They recommend being careful about latex condoms as well as a note that you should use lube since your natural lubrication will “dry” up. They also mention fun waterproof sex toys. Another article talks about warm-up exercises to get ready for water play while another talks about water foreplay ideas if you aren’t ready to have sex in water yet. The other two articles talk about how to avoid some common water mistakes as well as how to react to mistakes like if you rip out your showerhead in your excitement.

The sex positions are varying in intensity. Since these are all intended to be done in the water, they are all relatively hard to do compared to land positions. However, the book did a good job of including both standing and sitting positions. Some of the positions are a little unique, and most of them aren’t just off-shoots off the “regular” positions. For example, there’s a position with a man hanging/sitting off a pool ladder while penetrating the woman. That’s not that common!

Overall? I actually like this book. Is it as thorough as some other sex position books? God no. Do most other sex position books include water positions? No, they do not. For that reason, Cosmo’s Aqua Kama Sutra book is actually worth checking out. They actually do a pretty good job of turning this into an acceptable sex positions book. I wouldn’t recommend it as a book to get all your land positions from, but if you want some fun positions for in the water, I’d recommend it since it’s one of the very few out there. Thanks so much to FunWares for sending me Cosmo’s Aqua Kama Sutra book for review.
