7 Simple Tips for Dating in College

April 29th, 17   •   Posted by Mistress Kay   •   No Comments »

College is a time for learning, of course, but is also a time for exploring who you are. For some, this means being free to date without Mom and Dad looking over their shoulder, but that doesn’t mean you should go crazy right away. These tips will help you get the most out of dating in college.

Avoid Doing It for the First Two Months
With the chaos of getting used to being away from home, you may feel the need to latch onto someone right away. Even so, you should avoid getting into a relationship for the first couple of months of college. When a new relationship begins, both parties tend to neglect their other friends and responsibilities during the “honeymoon phase,” which will make it harder for you to acclimate to your university in other ways. Spend the first couple of months focusing on learning campus, setting a routine, and meeting platonic friends.

Take Dating Slowly
When you do begin dating, take it slowly. In high school, you probably saw a lot of couples who skipped dating — either due to lack of funds, transportation, or interesting things to do in your town — and skip straight to claiming to be in an exclusive relationship. Now that you’re in college, you should get to know the people you’re interested in before making anything official. Spend time in a variety of social situations with your friends and your dating partner’s friends to determine how compatible you truly are.

Don’t Date Where You Sleep
Stop thinking about how many times you’ve run into your cute neighbor in the communal showers and instead focus your dating efforts on people who don’t live in your dorm and aren’t majoring in the same thing as you. The reality is that many college relationships don’t work out. If yours goes south, will you really want to see your ex as you brush your teeth each morning or when you’re supposed to be focusing on that exam that’s worth half your final grade?

Make Time for Your Classes
Don’t skip out on your responsibilities to spend time with your boyfriend or girlfriend, even if the weather is perfect and you just can’t imagine spending one more hour in a dark and crowded lecture hall. College classes are a lot longer than the ones you took in high school and give you plenty more information. Skipping just one not only likely leaves you behind on important information but also makes it easy to create a slippery slope of skipping class — after all, there is nobody to haul you to the principal’s office — and leave you too far behind to catch up.

Enjoy Time Apart
Even if you do meet someone you want to date exclusively, don’t give up your own identity. It is important and healthy to spend time apart. Have separate study groups, avoid spending every school break together, and don’t feel the need to spend every single night at each other’s dorms. Go to a party, to the movies, or out to eat with your friends without your boyfriend or girlfriend in tow. Check out an event you’ve been interested in and go solo. Even spending an occasional night alone in the library can be beneficial for maintaining your own identity.

Try Dating Someone Who Isn’t Your Type
What type did you go for in high school? College is probably going to introduce you to people from all types of backgrounds, with all kinds of styles and a wide variety of world views. If you previously only dated athletes but you’ve always been attracted to artists, college is the time to meet them. At worst, dating someone who isn’t your normal type will likely be a learning experience.

Consider a Casual Hook-Up
If you just want to focus on your studies, there is nothing wrong with that — in fact, many people would consider the dedication admirable. Of course, you are still a young person who is discovering your sexual identity, so it is OK to consider casual hook-ups as long as you are safe about them. Always use protection, make sure to have a conversation about birth control and ensure you’re all covered in some way, and never meet new people at your dorm or in other private places. Websites, such as Badults, make it easy for you to find people who are looking for the same type of relationship you are.

Above all else, end relationships you aren’t happy in. Relationships are work, sure, but they are supposed to make you happy, too. If yours doesn’t, it’s the wrong one.

Affordable Wireless Remote Vibrator Fun: Svakom Elva Review

Svakom Elva

Svakom Elva

A wireless, remote-control bullet vibrator, the Elva is a new silicone wireless vibrator released from Svakom. Available in a purple or a pink, this sex toy is entirely rechargeable, waterproof, and made with a waterproof design. Vibration-wise, the toy offers 26 different vibration patterns. The remote requires a CR2032 battery for operation (two are included). The Svakom Elva comes with a 1 year warranty and a 10 year quality guarantee.

Packaging for the Svakom Elva

Packaging for the Svakom Elva

The Elva comes packaged in nice, fancy-looking packaging. The box is easily rectangle-shaped, and it will work well for gift-wrapping. Similar to a lot of luxury package, the vibrator itself comes packaged in a plain, black, discreet box. Outside the box is a slipcover that describes the toy. Inside the box, you’ll have a foam tray perfectly designed to hold the toys, and all of the accessories are underneath the tray. The vibrator includes the charging cable, two CR2032 batteries for the remote, the remote itself, the vibrator itself, warranty information, instruction manuals, and a faux suede drawstring storage bag.

Don’t worry so much about batteries for the vibrator itself: the Elva vibrator itself is designed for rechargeability and easy use. This bullet vibrator includes a small charging port on the opposite side to the control buttons. This bullet vibrator can just be plugged in to any standard USB port with the included cable. The vibrator includes a battery level indicator light to make it easy to never run out of power when you need it. When fully charged, the battery should last you about 2 hours of use, so it isn’t an all-day affair, but it’s long enough to work as a good tease.

Box of the Svakom Elva

Box of the Svakom Elva

However, the remote is rechargeable. Similar to the annoying LELO battery compartments, the back of the Elva remote has an inset gold panel with a large divet running down the middle of it. Turning and opening this compartment with only your fingers is a downright giant pain. I tried it with various household implements (pens, business cards, spoons, etc.), and nope. However, the divet is just about the perfect size for a CR 2032 battery to fit in (which is what the remote takes). So if you’re trying to replace the battery inside the remote, just use the new battery to open the compartment. If you just think the battery isn’t operating right or want to remove the battery in the remote, well, your best bet is two coins next to each other, but that’s led to a bit of scratching-up of the gold plating. Not my favorite battery compartment design.

Remote of the Svakom Elva

Remote of the Svakom Elva

Annoyed by the remote and just want to say “screw it”? Well, the vibrator can be used entirely independent of the remote. There’s a single button on the small bullet vibrator which controls the vibration modes. So if worst comes to worst, the toy can still be played with until you manage to get ahold of a new battery or get the compartment open.

Aside from using each piece solo, how well do they connect? Well, the vibrator itself has a single button on it that functions as the power and pattern-change button. The remote has three buttons: up, down, and on/off/pattern. If you want to connect the two, you just turn on the vibrator itself first by holding down the button. The vibrator will instantly start vibrating. Once it’s on, you turn on the remote by holding down its power button. Once they connect, the vibrator stops vibrating and awaits your signal from the remote. Just reverse the process to turn everything off.

As a sidenote, though, the remote DOES seem to drain battery while not in use. The CR2032 battery that I’ve barely used was entirely dead when I pulled the toy back out to use it again. I’d highly recommend that you remove the battery in-between uses, which, again, comes back to the annoyance of the battery compartment. However, it’ll save you a lot of headache when you can’t figure out why the remote won’t connect to the vibrator. It’s usually because the remote is dead.

Svakom Elva

Svakom Elva

The remote is small and designed to easily and discreetly fit into the palm of your hand. It does that pretty well, actually. It’s smaller than a lot of rocks. With my fingers curled around the remote, it becomes impossible to see the remote – making it perfect for public discretion. I can adjust the vibration levels using the up and down arrows and then curl my fingers around the remote to completely hide it. It is, however, relatively easy to drop, and I’ve dropped it a couple times. I’d recommend keeping it in a pocket or other small, enclosed space. It gets lost pretty easily in a purse.

As-is important with all wireless toys, we need to know how well the remote and the vibrator “talk” to one another. They do a pretty decent job. The toy seems to work best when both the toy and the remote are in the same space. You get more lee-way for how close you need to be when using the toy externally or with lightweight clothing. Transmission seems to be a bit spotty at times when using it internally or with thick clothing, but a bit of extra clicking, and it seems like it will change the setting when requested.

Svakom Elva Review

Svakom Elva Review

The vibrations are relatively quiet, though. Depending on how you’re using them and how you’re sitting, they should be virtually impossible to hear in most standard areas like a public street or restaurant. If you happen to be using it externally and rest it upon a hard surface (like a chair), it definitely gets louder. However, you can be rest assured that most areas will be a-okay to play in.

The vibrations are something else you’ll want to know about. They’re not bad. They’re definitely not powerful, but they’re definitely noticeable and not too surface-feeling. After a long, long time, they might start to feel numbing, but for the 2 hour lifespan that the toy gives you, you’ll be likely to enjoy the vibrations the entire time. I don’t, however, know if these will be strong enough to get most people to orgasm – especially if you’re playing in public and the vibrator contact isn’t constant and in the perfect spot. However, they are definitely enough to work as a great tease.

If you’re the one in charge of the remote, though, expect that you’re going to be flying blind. The design of the remote doesn’t provide any feedback as to whether the function worked or not. It also doesn’t provide any feedback as to what intensity level or pattern you currently have the vibrator on. However, at the price point that the Elva is available at, this might be a necessary sacrifice to get a workable wireless vibrator. Just expect that you likely won’t know what your partner is experiencing, and you’ll probably only know that “it changed” for them when you hit the control buttons. It’ll be hard to know exactly what setting the vibrator is on.

It’s also worth noting that you can’t turn off the vibrations with the remote and then turn them back on. If you want to allow your partner to rest, you’ll have to remove the vibrator entirely or have a spot where you can repair the two (requiring touching the vibrator again) in order to turn back on the vibrations. If you’re playing with someone who wants a short break – or if you’re going to be walking down an extremely quiet area – this might be a bit of a hassle.

Like most bullet vibrators, the Elva is pretty flexible. It can be used externally, and it can be slipped inside someone as well. The cord on the outside of the bullet helps remove the toy after insertion, but as I’m unsure what the remote control connects to, you may wish to try to avoid putting too much strain on the string outside of the bullet. When it comes to using it externally, it’s possible to slip it into the panty liner of most panties in order to hold the toy in place. However, that may not offer optimal clitoral stimulation. If you’re hoping to use public panty vibrators often, you should consider doing a quick sewing job of a small pouch on any well-fitting panties to get a small “vibrator pouch” to hold the toy in the proper position. It’d be a 10 minute job, and it’d help most vibrators be much more useful.

The Svakom Elva comes equipped with 25 frequency modes and an “intelligent mode”. This is 5 distinct patterns available at 5 different power intensities. The final mode is “intelligent mode”. This mode just seems to be a variation of all of the patterns that the Elva is capable of. It seems relatively random, but it does seem to follow the same random pattern each time. I’m not say I’d call this “intelligent”, and it was slightly more annoying to me than useful, but I could see this being really useful for those who don’t have someone to hold their remote and change the settings for them. It definitely “feels” like someone who is cycling through various patterns to be a tease. For orgasmic use, it was more frustrating than anything, but if you love the idea of public play and don’t have someone to hold the remote for you, using “Intelligent” mode in public might be the perfect solution. Never have any idea what’s coming next. The mode can be set to repeat again and again.

As the bullet vibrator is designed to be waterproof, clean-up is particularly simple. Using warm water and anti-bacterial soap will clean things up nicely. You don’t have to be too cautious during clean-up due to the vibrator’s waterproof design. Make sure to give the remote a light rub-down if it touched bodily fluids, but it shouldn’t require much excess clean-up. When it comes to lubricant, you’ll want to use water-based lubricant with this silicone toy. If using it externally, you may not need lubricant. For storage, the original packaging or the drawstring bag will work fantastically.

Overall, if you want to play with an affordable wireless bullet vibrator, the Svakom Elva can be a good option for you. While it doesn’t have a lot of the frills that some wireless options do, it’s a lot more affordable. The rechargeable aspect helps it feel more like a luxury option, and the toy actually responds relatively well to wireless commands. The vibrations are strong enough to offer a good tease, and the toy is quiet enough and functional enough for pretty good public play too. Thanks to Svakom for sending out this remote controlled wireless vibrator for my Svakom Elva review.

Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine Review

Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

An affordable fucking machine is finally within your reach with the Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine. Compatible with all Vac-U-Lock attachments, this machine offers incremental speeds all the way up to 195 strokes per minute. It also offers an adjustable angle within a 90 degree angle. Each stroke length is 60mm. Equipped with four optional suction cups for smooth floor use, this Kink Fucking Machine is designed for AC 100-240V, 50-60HZ power, but it includes a power adapter for international use. The machine is 16″ in length (with the arm at the shortest length), 9″ in width, and a height of 7″. It’s relatively lightweight at about 5 and a half pounds.

Packaging for the Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

The Power Banger fucking machine comes packaged in a decorated cardboard box. This box comes packaged inside plain, brown discreet box from BoudoirNoir. This box includes interior Styrofoam and cardboard that’s specifically cut-out to hold the Power Banger in place and ensure it stays safe during shipping. The box has a handle to easily tote the box around, but judging by the shape of my box after just using it for a couple weeks, I’d say the original box isn’t a long-term storage option if you plan on traveling with it. It also isn’t particularly discreet, so you wouldn’t want to travel outside with it. For in-the-house storage, it might work a-okay.

The Kink.com Power Banger comes with the machine itself, four optional suction cup feet, instructions, a power converted for international use, an optional handle, the power cord and brick, and the remote cord and remote.

The thing that the Power Banger DOESN’T come with is the dildo itself. You can not use the Power Banger straight out of the box without already owning a Vac-U-Lock dildo – or purchasing a Vac-U-Lock dildo alongside the Power Banger. It does not include any attachments. Make sure to have attachments that work for it when you pick it up – I don’t want to see your enthusiasm get killed when you figure out you can’t use your brand new toy quite yet. However, the Kink by Doc Johnson fucking machine is compatible with any Vac-U-Lock dildo – whether small or large. As long as it’s a Vac-U-Lock dildo, it will fit fine.

Set-up is the first thing you’re going to encounter when you go to use the Kink.com Power Banger. Luckily, it’s pretty much self-explanatory and doesn’t really take much effort – which is exactly what most people want to hear when it comes to getting to play with a toy that’s going to pleasure them. Place the Power Banger on a flat surface. All cords come unconnected which makes it easy to position. If it’s a tiled surface, I recommend using the optional suction cup attachments. The machine has two small textured wheels on each side of the thrusting post. Unscrew those, and you can adjust the actual angle where the machine is pointing in a 90-degree arc. There’s also a small textured wheel that tightens/loosens to allow you to reposition or remove the optional handle that’s located on the thrusting shaft of the toy.

Three connecting cables of the Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

Showing the three connecting cables of the Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

Once you have the machine in place, plug in the power brick to the power-in port. Super easy. Once you’ve done that, plug the remote’s two cables into the power-out port. Again, really easy. You then just push the base of your Vac-U-Lock dildo onto the Vac-U-Lock post, and done! Ready to fuck and play. (The Vac-U-Lock post DOES come unscrewed from the machine itself, so if you’re having a hard time getting enough leverage to get the dildo to slide in, you can unscrew it and put it on a hard surface).

Again, you’re talking less than 30 seconds from start to finish. You can jump straight into playing without fussing with many cords. The cords stay nice and untangled, and it’s really easy to get things easily positioned before you fuss with plugging things in. It’s a good design.

Everything the Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine includes

Everything the Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine includes

Easy for a third person to control, the Kink Power Banger machine comes with an off-unit remote that attaches to the fucking machine via a cord. This cord is relatively long, and you can sit far enough away that you can’t actually touch the “rider” and still be able to control it. This makes it really easy to use for self-control as well. It’s really up to you. The remote is equipped with a single spinning dial that goes from “slow” to “fast”. There are no numerical values on it, so it’s not too easy to say “I like it on a 3!” It’s just a matter of trying until you find the right setting.

The Power Banger can be played with on any surface. This Kinky fucking machine comes with four optional suction cup “feet” that can be added onto the feet of the machine. This allows for play on hard surfaces without the machine sliding against the floor. With some of the more intense thrusting settings, the fucking machine will shake back and forth. Very thin carpet seems to allow the machine to move more during use. Anal sex (and meeting any “resistance” during thrusting such as tight muscles), seems to allow the machine to move more during use. If you’re not taking advantage of the suction cups because it’s a carpeted area or a bed or something, I’d really recommend placing the machine’s backside up against a wall or up against a heavy object. It keeps the fucking machine pretty well in place. If using it on a flat surface, though, the suction cups work fine.

Showing the adjustable knobs for the angles

Showing the adjustable knobs for the angles

So, now that we’ve covered the basics, how well does it work? Well, it works pretty amazingly. It seems to work best when there’s little resistance coming back at the machine – such as with vaginal use or if someone is pretty relaxed and ready for anal sex. However, if there’s some resistance, the machine might end up moving away from the person you’re thrusting into – so the suction cups or placing the machine up against the wall really helps. Being able to adjust the machine to various angles also helps get the right angle for smoother penetration. While we’ve had to use a box for doggy-style penetration (as the machine is relatively short in height), it isn’t too hard to find a box or other item to “lift” the Power Banger to the height that you’ll need.

Easy and adjustable remote for the thrusting

The easy and adjustable remote for the thrusting

The speed settings are going to be more-than-enough for most users as well. It definitely can start at a slow, teasing crawl, and the higher settings are much closer to the “pounding” sensation you’d expect with a sex machine. While the machine does automatically power-down if it begins to overheat, we’ve had the machine on for 40+ minute sessions without it seeming warm to the touch or shutting itself off.

We’re also particularly fond of how easily the machine sets up. Plug in a few cables, and it’s ready to go.

Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

Kink Power Banger Fucking Machine

The most important thing to know about this fucking machine is its limiting factor: it can only use Vac-U-Lock dildos. These dildos are made by Doc Johnson and Doc Johnson alone. That means you’ll have to choose from the currently-available Vac-U-Lock options. However, MANY sex machines only allow you to use two or three attachments that come with the machine itself, so having the 40+ Vac-U-Lock options available is definitely an improvement. Doc Johnson does make some “Platinum” (silicone) Vac-U-Lock dildos in various sizes. Nothing too insanely huge if you’re a size queen/king. We’re currently working on a work-around to use any flared base in the machine. We’ll see if I can figure it out.

There shouldn’t be much to clean on the Power Banger itself. All of the bodily fluids and lubricant should stay on the attachment itself. However, the entire external material of the fucking machine is made of plastic, so if you get anything on the machine itself, use a slightly-damp washcloth to wash off the mess. Do NOT get this anywhere near a water source – as it’s not even a little-bit waterproof. Make sure to select lubricants that are compatible with the attachment material you’re using.

Showing how far towards the ceiling the angle will go

Showing how far towards the ceiling the angle will go

As for storage, as mentioned before, this fucking machine can be stored in the original box. This box comes with a handle on top, and it will honestly be suitable for a decent amount of home use before the box becomes unusable. However, as the box as entirely not-discreet, you’ll likely want to invest in a plastic tub or other large box to store the toy if you plan on regularly taking it in public. The interior Styrofoam and cardboard plates can be moved to your new container to help keep the fucking machine from bouncing around once in storage.

Overall, if you’re wanting a simple, gets-straight-to-the-point, easy fucking machine, the Kink.com Power Banger fucking machine is exactly what you’ll want. There aren’t tons of dials to mess with. You don’t have to reassemble and unassemble the item after each use. You don’t have to worry about where you use the machine – or getting your body into the correct angle. The Kink Power Banger, while it doesn’t offer all of the customization of some sex machines that can cost 3 times as much, provides the sex machine experience in an easy-to-use package that’s going to be perfect for most users. Thanks to BoudoirNoir for providing the Kink.com fucking machine for my Kink Fucking Machine Power Banger review.

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum Review

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

Whether you’d like a speculum for medical curiosity or kink reasons, MEO.de has a huge selection of sex speculums. One of those items is the Speculum Black Berlin. Made from stainless steel, the width is variable between 1.2″ and 1.6″ with a possible spread of up to 4″. This black speculum can be used vaginally or anally, and it offers two ways to adjust the spread.

The Speculum Black Berlin comes in pretty basic packaging. It will be in a sealed plastic bag that will need to be destroyed in order to get the speculum out from the bag. Outside of that, the speculum comes with no instructions or other packaging. If you’re unfamiliar with how to use a speculum, I’d recommend doing a bit of reading online before taking it for its first trial run.

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

Showing the adjustable aspects of the MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

While this black speculum might look confusing, the control of it is relatively simplistic. There are two screws with bolts on them. One of the screws controls how “wide” the two pieces will go apart from each other at the end that’s furthest away from the tip. The other screw controls how far apart the two “bills” will go. You’ll most-likely want to set the former before you insert the toy then manually open the speculum with the lever and set the other screw to hold the internal widening that you’re wanting. It’s a two-point system, and it works particularly well. You’ll understand it really quickly once you have the speculum in your hands.

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

Tip design of the MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

With a toy like this, you’re usually worried about sharp edges or badly-designed corners. There’s no reason to worry with this one. All of the edges are entirely smooth. The “duck bill” is gently sloped for a comfortable insertion, and even the undersides of the “bill” are entirely smoothed. The only part of this speculum that has any texture is the nuts and bolts for size adjustment, and those will not come in contact with the wearer’s skin.

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

Easily-adjustable design of the MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

The other concern with a speculum is about pinching. In this case, you, again, have nothing to worry about. The two “bills” of the speculum are slightly different in length. This means that when opening or allowing the speculum to close entirely, there’s no chance of internal skin getting stuck between the toy. On the external spectrum of things, there is a small screw that might touch the skin during the widening process, but there’s absolutely nothing that’s going to pinch the skin. The manufacturers ensured that all of the “clampy bits” were on the side facing away from the person being penetrated.

If you’re looking for a toy that’s going to allow you to spread your partner pretty wide (and hold it there), this is going to do exactly what you need. Once slipped into your partner, the design allows you to slightly force it open then hold the speculum at that width. Once your partner is comfortable at that width, you can easily increase the width and have it hold that. It allows for easy incremental adjustment to achieve a wider spread over time (instead of starting gung-ho from the first time!) It’s comfortable and easy to hold onto – even with lubricated hands – and it operates without pinching anyone.

MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

Showing the widest settings of the MEO.de Black Berlin Speculum

Designed to be sterilized for use over and over, this speculum is made from stainless steel. The toy should be bathed in warm water and anti-bacterial soap before and after every use. For sterilization, you can boil it or use a bleach/water solution. You’ll want to regularly use a toothbrush or other cleaning brush in order to clean around the smaller areas of the nuts and bolts. You can use any type of lubricant you’d like with this speculum (though I recommend you use a lot of it!), and it can be stored any way you’d like. Just make sure that you don’t unscrew the bolts so far that they become separated from the speculum. If so, your speculum won’t hold itself open as nicely as it was designed to do.

Overall, if you want to play with a speculum, you’re going to have a harder time finding a more comfortable, affordable, and high-quality option other than the Speculum Black Berlin. It adjusts really easily, doesn’t scratch or pinch the wearer, and it just looks pretty sexy too. It’s easily to sterilize and clean, and it’s something that offers a wide variety of adjustability too. Thanks to MEO.de for sending along this stainless steel black speculum for my Speculum Black Berlin review.
