FemmeFunn Rattler Spade Butt Plug Review

UPDATE AUGUST 2023: This large anal plug is no longer in production. While you’re here, why not check out some additional educational info – like online submissive tasks, beginner pegging positions, saran wrap bondage, and enema 101 info.

Made from body-safe silicone and available in three sizes, the Rattler Spade is one of the butt plugs sold by FemmeFunn. The plugs are available in Small, Medium, or Large, and they’re available in Red or Black as well. Each plug is made from silicone, and each plug includes an internal moving and rattling ball. I was sent the Large size for review – which has a length of 4.3″ and a width of 2.4″ in diameter.

As mentioned previously, this review is over the Large size in Black.

The Rattler Spade Butt Plug comes in blister-pack packaging. The edges of the package snap together nicely, and you can observe the Rattler Spade Plug in all of its glory through the packaging. The bright-yellow packaging gives a bit of basic information about the plug, and it’s easy to remove the plug from the packaging. It’s much larger (and awkwardly shaped) compared to the plug, though, so you might prefer to toss (or recycle, if possible!) the packaging after you receive your new plug.

Before anything else, we have to talk about how BIG this plug is. The photos may not make it obvious, but this plug is a BIG one. Like, really big. Like, “bigger than plugs that claim they’re meant for size queens/kings”. It’s this intense thickness that sneaks under the radar without any warning signs. You order off the internet, and it just shows up, and it’s gigantic. And that’s what you need to know. We own quite a few plugs designed for anal stretching “above and beyond” regular biological-penis size, and this is now the largest plug that we own. And that’s saying something. Make sure you pay attention to the measurements. The Large is 2.4″ in diameter – and since the internal portion of this plug feels like it’s made from plastic, that means it actually *feels* like that full two and a half inches as well. Don’t expect much squish or give from this silicone plug. It’s not entirely rigid, but it’s pretty damn close.

The plug itself, as mentioned above, is pretty darn rigid. What isn’t rigid, however, is the retention neck of the plug and the base of the plug. Both are made from the same type of silicone, but they’re squishy and move and bend really nicely. This will definitely help with the comfort of wearing this plug. There’s nothing pokey or uncomfortably rigid sitting in-between your cheeks to annoy you.

After that, we really need to touch on what its secondary feature is supposed to be. The Rattler Spade is, according to the copy, supposed to have an interior ball that “rolls” and “moves around” within the plug to add more sensation to your butt plug wearing session. You shouldn’t have to fuss much with the ball at all. It’s entirely contained within the plug itself – (much like kegel balls with inner weights) – and it’s supposed to just enhance the stimulation.

That is partially the problem, though. It doesn’t really “enhance” stimulation at all. It’s honestly so little sensation that it’s near-impossible to feel when shaking it in my hands unless I’m really focusing on it. And I don’t know if you know this or not, but it’s pretty hard to replicate the roughness of shaking with your butt compared to your hand. So once the plug goes into your butt, it’s virtually no sensation from the internal rattling ball. To be clear, it’s not really “virtually none”. It’s just plain “none”. He tried jumping. He tried walking. He tried jogging. He tried being really still except small micromovements of his butt. Nothing. It just feels like a giant plug.

That’s not to say that it doesn’t offer sensation. Purely because of the sheer *size* of this big boy, it definitely offers a noticeable amount of sensation. It’ll definitely be one of the biggest mainstream butt plugs you’ll find, and as such, it’ll be a very intense stretch if you manage to get it in. Once it’s in, though, the small retention area really helps keep the plug in place, and we’ve had no issue with the plug attempting to slide itself out or in.

FemmeFunn Rattler Spade Butt Plug Review

I am a bit concerned about the base (as it’s only about as wide as the thickness of the plug itself), but we’ve had no issue when using the plug as a solo toy. If we use a bunch of large, thick dildos and THEN use the plug after the butt has been stretched to comfortably take this size, then we have some concerns about the plug almost sliding inside. But if you’re just using this plug as a first toy or the only toy of a session, it seems to stay really nicely and easily in place.

But it’s surprising that the internal “rattling” mechanism was allowed out of beta-testing when it’s so useless. Fun Factory makes an internal-ball butt plug as well – at nearly 1/4 the size – and you get way more sensation out of it. So when FemmeFun had such a HUGE plug to work with – which meant a huge internal size to get the ball moving in – I expected a lot more sensation – not a lot less. I don’t quite understand why it’s so little sensation. The only explanation that I can come up with is that they’re using the exact same internal chamber (and ball) for their Large-sized plug as they are for their small-sized plug. What might be noticeable in a small plug with a lot less girth becomes virtually unnoticeable in the huge plug with so much more girth. Either way, it’s definitely a “let down” from the rattling feature.

The Rattler Spade is a waterproof butt plug with no texture or small crevices to speak of. This makes it pretty damn easy to clean. Use warm water and anti-bacterial soap, and you’ll be able to simply wipe down the surface of the butt plug. As it’s made from silicone, make sure to use water-based lubricant on it, or if you’re into silicone-based, make sure to do a spot test of the lubricant before going hogwild; you want to make sure it won’t harm the material of your new butt plug. This plug can be sterilized with bleach and water or boiling it in a boiling water bath. And for storage? Well, it’s up to you. The original packaging is a bit awkward-shaped for storage, but the plug isn’t too sensitive to picking up hairs or lint, so it’s not terrible to leave it container-less as long as you give it a nice rinse over before using it again.

Overall, the Rattler Spade from FemmeFun isn’t a bad choice if you really love huge plugs. However, if you’re purchasing the plug purely for its internal rattling feature, you’re better off not. If you’re purchasing the plug to enjoy a huge monster of a plug in body-safe silicone at an affordable price? Well, that’s where the FemmeFun Rattler Spade butt plug will be a good fit.
