You know what I wish? I wish there were more female-friendly sex stores in more areas. Sure, if you go to many major towns or either the East or West coast in the United States, you can usually find some good ones. I know of some great ones in Chicago and Minneapolis in the Midwest, but that’s the issue – I can’t think of a single sex-positive sex toy store in ALL all of my state. That’s awful!
I always hear about awesome sex shops in the UK, but that’s really nothing I can explore either – y’know, being all whole body of water away. But still, I wish that there would be more of an outcry in rural areas for sex-positive sex stores. There are a ton of shady, whole-in-the-wall type of places that sell a bunch of jelly toys and unsafe materials without any knowledge about the toys they’re selling, but there’s really nothing that qualifies like that around here.
I have to wonder why. Is it just that people in the Midwest are less interested in having safe sex? Are they less open about their sex lives? Is it just that companies think that there’s less profit to be made in the Midwest? Or is it because the Midwest is so used to having a limited in-store purchase ability so we buy most of our items online? Or just that the shady sex toy stores are making enough profit that nobody has thought that the people of the midwest may benefit from a sex-positive toy store? I have to wonder about what has caused this lack of sex-positive stores (if you have a guess, I’d love to hear it)!
Until the day when there’s awesome toy stores in my area, I’ll have to stick to shopping online and being jealous of all the pleasant stores people can visit including a sex store in the UK. It’s good that I can get most of the same items online – and that there are some nice, sex-positive online stores to make that process easy. Plus, with good shipping policies, it makes it even easier to be satisfied shopping for sex toys online. Still, though, an in-person store would be amazing. I wonder if it will ever change…
