Telling People You Meet

Something I’ve never had to deal with is telling a romantic interest about what I do on this blog. That seems like a terrifying prospect, so I’m glad that it’s something that I still have yet to try. I’ve tried a couple different types of an adult dating site (since my partner and I are open), but usually those things don’t pan out to the point where I’d have to reveal it. Normally, the people I tend to meet on those types of sites turn out to don’t really capture my attention. It’s rare when someone actually gets my attention for the long-term. I’m sure it’s nothing against the people, but I just am pretty picky. A couple of my friends have told me about their success stories on dating sites, though, so they must work well for some!

As for times where I’ve gotten close enough to actually reveal it, those are usually people that I met through kinky channels like fetish websites or through the local BDSM clubs. That usually takes most of the mystery and problems out of saying that I enjoy reviewing sex toys in my free time. Luckily! Sometimes those people never have actually read through my profile, though, so actually telling them catches them at a surprise. Since they’re pretty open about their sexuality, though, it never is a problem. I do find it totally weird that most of my adult dating happens to come from sex-orientated sites, but at least that gets half of the trouble already out of the way. Maybe I just get to get along better with people who already know what they want when they’re adult dating and are open enough with their sexuality to want to experiment? I’m not sure why. If someone had the financial budget, I’d love to see someone do a true, scientific research project into whether the kink community, at large, tends to be more intelligent than the average person. I wonder what they’d find.

I wonder about you other sex toy reviewers though. I wonder if you’ve ever had to reveal it, and if so, how does it normally go? It seems like something that might be able to break a tentative relationship since it’s a bit “out there”. It seems like it could be one of those really important things, so how early is it appropriate to tell someone about something like that? I suppose it’s about as awkward as telling someone about any sort of alternative sexuality thing except this one tends to be more of a hobby than just something I do in the bedroom. Either way, it makes me glad that I have different adult dating site AND fetish sites to make sure that I can experience a full range of people to choose from!
